When you obtain your CDL, you will be legally qualified to drive a variety of commercial trucks. If you are seeking for a great way to boost your experience and take your truck driving career to the next level, you may want to consider applying for a special CDL endorsement. CDL endorsements allow truckers to drive specialized vehicles, such as trucks that carry hazardous waste. Read on for more information about what every commercial trucker should know about CDL endorsements.
The Standard CDL
After you complete your truck driver training, you will typically apply for a standard CDL license. In the state of Arizona, commercial drivers licenses come in A, B, or C classifications. Each CDL classification corresponds to a particular truck weight or style. For example, with a Class A CDL, you will be qualified to operate a combination vehicle that has a gross weight of 26,001 or more pounds.
Hazardous Materials Endorsement
The hazardous materials endorsement is one of two different CDL endorsements that is available through the Arizona Department of Transportation. With a hazardous materials endorsement, you will be eligible to transport materials that are classified as being hazardous goods. In order to receive this endorsement, you will have to pass an additional knowledge test.
Bus and School Driver Endorsement
If you are interested in using your CDL to transport passengers, you will need to apply for the bus and school driver endorsement. This endorsement ensures that you are knowledgeable about the special regulations and operating controls that are associated with passenger vehicles. As a school or bus driver, many of your trips will typically be local, rather than long distance.
