The first step in your future truck driving career is applying to a CDL school for training. This training will provide you with the knowledge and hands-on experience you need to pass the CDL exams and earn your CDL so you can apply for jobs as a trucker. Phoenix Truck Driving Institute is always accepting students into our Class A and Class B training and testing programs.
Age and Experience
In order to apply for CDL training and earn your CDL, you must be at least 18 years of age by the time your program is completed. However, individuals between the ages of 18 and 21 may only obtain an intrastate license; if you want to earn an interstate license, you must be 21 by the end of your CDL program. Regardless of your age, you must have a valid Arizona driver’s license and prove that you have a minimum of one year’s experience driving a standard vehicle, such as a car.
The Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration uphold certain physical requirements for CDL holders. You must meet these requirements and be able to pass a health exam before applying to Phoenix Truck Driving Institute. Furthermore, all applicants to our CDL school must pass a drug test prior to enrollment.
Applicants to Phoenix Truck Driving Institute must either hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent. If you have neither, we’ll ask that you pass an approved ability-to-benefit test. Additionally, you’ll need to demonstrate the ability to read and speak English well enough to allow you to converse with others, understand highway and traffic signage, and keep logs and other required documents.
